Here’s Where You Should Celebrate Octoberfest in the Quad Cities
Oktoberfest in Munich 2022 will begin on Saturday, September 17 and ends on Monday, October 3. Why "Oktoberfest" happens in "September" is beyond me, but I try not to ask too many questions when it comes to drinking beer.
Oktoberfest History
Oktoberfest started in 1810 in Bavaria, Germany, during the wedding of the Prince & his Princess Bride and they've been doing it ever since. It eventually became a folk festival of agriculture and beer and became the biggest beer festival in the world.
Then when German immigrants came to America, they of course brought along a love for beer, specifically a Märzen.
I had Charlie Cole from the Blue Cat Brewing Company and Brandon Mavis from Front Street Brewery in the studio to talk about Brandon's beloved Oktoberfest Beers! Charlie brought in his "Festbier" lager which is brewed to be closer to the style of beer drank in Germany this time of year. Less caramely, less sweet than your normal American Oktoberfest beer, with a higher ABV than a normal lager and naturally carbonated much like the authentic German brewers would make.
