Second Crash Mirrors First Almost Exactly

A routine visit took a wild turn—twice—for an 83-year-old man in Clarkstown, New York, after he crashed his car into the same Webster Bank branch not once, but twice, exactly six weeks apart. Both incidents happened around 2:00 P.M. on a Friday, and both involved the same car and location: 44 Route 59 in Nanuet.

The first crash occurred on March 21st, when the driver mistakenly pressed the gas instead of ensuring the vehicle was in park. He drove straight through a glass window. Thankfully, no one was injured in the initial incident.

Same Spot, Same Time, Same Driver

Fast-forward to Friday, May 2nd—again at 2:00 P.M.—and the same man crashed into the same building in nearly the same manner. This time, however, the glass window had not yet been replaced and was temporarily covered with plywood. As the man attempted to park, he once again hit the gas instead of the brake, driving directly into the wooden barricade.

The crash prompted emergency response from the Clarkstown Police Department, Nanuet EMS, and both the Nanuet and Pearl River Fire Departments. The driver sustained minor injuries in the second crash and was issued two traffic citations, unlike the first time, when he walked away without any violations.

Community Raises Safety Concerns—And a Few Jokes

While many online are urging the man's family to take his keys for safety, others have taken a more humorous route, suggesting the bank should convert that wall into a drive-thru window. Still, concerns remain about the man’s ability to drive safely, especially as another six-week interval points to the next potential incident: Friday, June 13th. And yes—it is a Friday the 13th.

For now, another temporary wall has been put up, but whether it will hold through mid-June remains to be seen.
