A stolen vehicle slammed into the front of Berean Baptist Church in Fayetteville, leaving behind shattered glass, twisted metal, and a stunned congregation. Pastor Steve Wilson said the crash shook not only the building, but also his nerves.

“It was very overwhelming,” Wilson said. “Especially when the car came through the building. You can actually see the camera inside the church shake from the impact.”

Crash Caught on Camera

The entire incident played out like something out of a Hollywood film. Surveillance footage shows a speeding car flying down Glensford Drive, crossing into the church parking lot, then crashing through bushes before slamming directly into the church’s front entrance. Sparks fly as the car bounces over a median. Moments later, two individuals in masks are seen jumping out and running away, leaving the wrecked vehicle behind.

One of the suspects, 18-year-old Demear Denning, was later arrested by Fayetteville police. He now faces multiple charges, including possession of a stolen vehicle and reckless driving. Authorities say Denning was one of two people spotted wearing masks in the vehicle shortly before the crash. When officers attempted a traffic stop, the car sped off, ultimately leading to the crash at the church.

Damage to Church Estimated in the Thousands

The impact caused significant damage to the church’s entrance. Pastor Wilson noted that the doors, recently installed, were particularly costly.
“Each set of doors costs $8,000. Now we’ll have to replace all the storefront glass and framing,” he explained.

Church Finds Humor Amid Chaos

Despite the destruction, the church is choosing to remain positive. In a Facebook post, Berean Baptist Church joked, “Some people just can't wait to get to church. But for those who can, our worship services are at 8:30 a.m., 10:45 a.m., and 5 p.m. Praise the Lord, everyone was okay. Please avoid the Narthex entrance until further notice.”

Police Still Searching for Second Suspect

Denning is currently being held on a $25,000 bond. Investigators are still working to identify the second person who fled the scene.

The church remains open for services, although members are asked to use alternate entrances while repairs are underway. Fayetteville police have not yet released further details.
