You could cap off 2020 on a good, fun note, and kickoff 2021 with a bang tonight at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds during the New Year's Eve Fireworks Extravaganza.

It's hard to have plans that include ringing in 2021 with friends and family in person because of COVID-19. But the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds, along with many other businesses in the Quad Cities, are hosting a firework show tonight to say goodbye to 2020, and hello to 2021.

In mid-December, officials from the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds announced their "New Year's Eve Fireworks Extravaganza" event to help ring in the new year.

According to their event, officials are encouraging you to "grab some dinner and dessert from your favorite local restaurant and then make your way up to the fairgrounds to enjoy a fireworks show like no other."

There is not cost to get into the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds to watch the show, but donations will be accepted at the gate.

Officials say that once people arrive, they will be directed to a viewing place over in the east parking lot to watch from the comfort of their vehicle.

Gates will open at 9:30 p.m. for people to get a spot to watch the show. Organizers ask those who want to enter the fairgrounds to watch the show to enter through the front gates. The fireworks show itself will begin at 10:30 p.m.

Tonight's New Year's Eve Fireworks Extravaganza is being put on by the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds, Woods installation and many other small businesses to support the fairgrounds after a tough year, according to our news partner, Local 4 News.
