A simple decision at a gas station turned into a life-changing moment for a Charles County woman who won $100,000 after purchasing her first-ever lottery ticket.

Beginners Luck

The woman, who chose to remain anonymous, shared that she had thought about trying her luck with the lottery in the past but never acted on it—mainly because she rarely has cash on hand.
“I almost never have cash with me,” she said. “If I had cash those other times I thought about it, I might’ve bought a ticket. But I just didn’t.”

That changed during a recent stop at US Fuel in Waldorf. While paying for gas with cash, she noticed the lottery signs and decided to take a chance.

“I had a $10 bill and picked the first $10 ticket I saw,” she explained.
That ticket, a Mega Bucks scratch-off, ended up revealing a top prize of $100,000. At first, she wasn’t sure if it was real.

“I didn’t want to get too excited,” she said. “I thought maybe I misunderstood the rules since this was my first time playing.”
To confirm the win, she asked a family member to double-check the ticket. Their response left no doubt—it was a winner.

“I was in shock. My hands were sweaty, and I just couldn’t believe it,” she recalled.
The winner hasn’t revealed how she plans to use the money but says the experience has changed her outlook.

“All my life, people have told me I’m unlucky,” she said. “This just proves them wrong.”
The US Fuel store where she bought the ticket will also receive a bonus for selling the winning scratch-off, adding to the celebration.
For the Charles County resident, this unexpected prize is a powerful reminder that one bold decision can lead to extraordinary results.
