Boychuk was playing defense and checked Montreal Canadiens' player Artturi Lehkonen, causing him to fall forward. Lehkonen's feet flew upward as the rest of his body fell down, hitting Boychuk in the face with the bottom of his ice skate.

Obviously in pain, Boychuk fell to his knees, clutching his face. After a moment, he rushed off the ice, followed by the team's medical staff.  Boychuk suffered no damage to his eye, but his eyelid took a good slicing. It required 90 stitches to fix. Boychuk took to twitter to let everyone know he was okay, and but was having some issues unlocking his phone.

The Canadiens ended up winning the game 6-2.
