The Top 4 Jobs Tennessee People Refuse to Tip
Poll Reveals Top Jobs We Refuse to Tip—Is Gratuity Getting Out of Hand?
In a world where tipping seems to be expected at every turn, a new poll highlights who Americans are most resistant to tipping—even when prompted by credit card machines. Leading the list of people we refuse to tip is one profession that might surprise you: mechanics.
The survey found that a staggering 82% of respondents would never tip their mechanic. Why? Many see them as professionals who already command a fair wage, and with the often hefty price tag for repairs, most customers feel tipping is unnecessary.
Here are the top four professions we’re least likely to tip:
1. Mechanics – A resounding 82% said no to tipping, while only 18% said they might consider it.
2. Concession Stand Workers at Sporting Events – 76% of people said they wouldn’t tip, likely because paying $12 for a hot dog already feels like enough.
3. Fast-Food Workers – With the rise of self-service kiosks and drive-thrus, 53% of people refuse to tip, despite prompts on screens.
4. Restaurant Workers for Pickup Orders – Even when ordering takeout, 51% of customers don’t feel the need to add a tip.
Is Tipping Getting Out Of Hand?
While many Americans are holding back in these situations, tipping is still the norm for other services. Delivery drivers, Uber drivers, Instacart shoppers, and bartenders are at the top of the list of those we always tip. These roles, which often involve direct, personal service, seem to elicit more gratitude from customers.
The question remains: Is tipping getting out of hand, or is it just the new norm? Whether we like it or not, the expectation to tip is expanding, leaving many to wonder where we should draw the line.
