This Weekend Will Decide Everything For The QC Storm: Playoffs or Elimination
The Quad City Storm kept their playoff hopes alive over the weekend, splitting a two-game road series against the Pensacola Ice Flyers.
After falling short in Friday night’s matchup, the Storm bounced back in a big way on Saturday, securing a gritty 2-1 shootout victory. That crucial win pushed Quad City back into the eighth and final playoff spot in the SPHL standings with just one weekend left in the regular season.
Now, everything comes down to the final two home games.
Final Weekend at Home
The Storm return to Moline for a high-stakes series against the Huntsville Havoc, with both games carrying major playoff implications.
Friday night is #HockeyTownQC Night, presented by the QC International Airport. Fans can expect a nostalgic atmosphere as Mallards and Storm alumni return for a pregame autograph session and on-ice recognition. Players will also wear special edition #HockeyTownQC jerseys, which will be auctioned off after the game.
Saturday shifts to Fan Appreciation Night, featuring a team poster giveaway for the first 1,000 fans through the doors, along with merchandise discounts and in-game promotions.
Breaking Down the Playoff Scenarios
The Storm have multiple paths to clinch a postseason spot, and it could happen as early as Friday night.
Here’s what needs to happen:
- Win both games, and the Macon Mayhem loses at least one game
- Win both games, and either the Knoxville Ice Bears or Birmingham Bulls loses both of their games
- Win one game, and Macon loses both of theirs
Everything on the Line
With the season on the line and a playoff spot within reach, the Storm head into the final weekend knowing every period, every shift, and every goal matters.
It’s simple: win, and they’re in the conversation. Lose, and the season could be over.
