When the firefighters returned, they found smoke and quickly contained the fire to the kitchen and living areas. While the fire was extinguished swiftly, smoke caused damage to other parts of the station, including the bathrooms and sleeping quarters. No injuries were reported, and all fire equipment remained undamaged.
How Did The Fire Start?
Initial investigations revealed that the fire originated in the kitchen near the stove. However, the cause of the fire is still under investigation. Chad Moose, Public Information Officer for the Irving Fire Department, explained that the stove had been serviced within the last two weeks due to a malfunction, and investigators are considering that as a potential cause. “We can’t say for certain what started the fire,” Moose said. “There will be a thorough investigation in the coming weeks.”
Fire Station 9 Is Closed
For the time being, Fire Station 9 will be closed, and its firefighters will join neighboring stations to ensure the community continues to receive coverage. Fire officials stressed that there will still be a strong presence in the area while repairs are made.
Updates on the investigation and the reopening of the station will be provided as more information becomes available.
