Iowa Sheriff’s Deputy Killed In Line Of Duty This Morning
Pottawattamie County Sheriff's Deputies Patrick Morgan and Mark Burbridge were shot this morning by an escaping inmate, according to a statement from County Sheriff Jeff Danker.
It happened during an inmate transfer, when the inmate stole a firearm from one of the deputies, and shot and injured both men. Mark Burbridge, a 12-year veteran, later died from his injuries. Morgan is in stable condition.
The inmate then fled, leading police from both Iowa and Nebraska on a manhunt. He carjacked a vehicle and evaded police stop strips. He crashed the vehicle and was apprehended. He is in custody.
Pottawattamie County Sheriff Jeff Danker said Burbridge was well-known to the police community, and a good man.
