Palmer Candy Recalls 29 Items

The recall was initiated after the supplier of the white coating material informed Palmer Candy of a potential contamination issue stemming from dairy powders provided by a secondary supplier. Marty Palmer, President and CEO of Palmer Candy, emphasized the company's commitment to product safety, stating, “When you are working with food and safety, 99.9% is not 100%. I only want my products to be 100% safe for our customers.”

The decision to recall thousands of tons of products comes despite all ingredient tests returning negative for salmonella and no reported illnesses. Production of the coating has been suspended while the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Palmer Candy continue their investigation.

What to Do If You Have a Recalled Item

The recalled items were distributed nationwide through retailers such as Walmart, Hy-Vee, Target, and Dollar General, and in various states including Iowa, Alabama, California, and more. They come in diverse packaging forms, including bags, pouches, and tubs.

Consumers who have purchased these white-coated products are advised to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. For questions, consumers can contact Palmer Candy at 1-800-831-0828, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This recall mirrors a similar incident in 2017 when Palmer Candy had to recall 18 products due to potential salmonella contamination from a milk powder ingredient. "We always investigate hard to determine what has happened," Palmer stated, adding that the supplier involved will no longer be using the source of the suspect dairy powder.
