Several ready-to-eat deli products sold at Jewel-Osco stores across Illinois, Iowa, and Indiana are being voluntarily recalled due to a potential health risk. The move comes after a supplier flagged one key ingredient used in the prepared foods as possibly contaminated with a dangerous bacteria.

Contamination Concern Sparks Urgent Recall

The affected items were sold in store delis and grab-and-go coolers between July 16 and July 19, 2025. While no illnesses have been reported so far, health officials are urging customers to take the warning seriously.

What You Need to Know About the Risk

The concern involves Listeria monocytogenes, a type of bacteria that can cause serious illness, especially in children, the elderly, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems. Though healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, nausea, or diarrhea, Listeria infections can lead to far more severe health problems, including miscarriages and stillbirths.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommends that anyone who bought the recalled items throw them away or return them for a full refund. Customers should also thoroughly sanitize any surfaces, utensils, or containers that may have come into contact with the food. The bacteria is known to survive in cold temperatures and can spread easily.

These Are the Products Being Pulled

The recalled products were made using a tuna salad supplied by Reser’s Fine Foods. Breadcrumbs in the tuna salad are believed to be the source of the contamination. Items being recalled include sandwiches, croissants, and salad servings that contain the tuna mixture.

Recalled UPCs and product names include:

  • Club Sandwich ES with Salad FS
  • RM Duo Tuna Salad with Crackers
  • RM Quad Tuna Salad
  • RM Salad Tuna SS
  • RM Tuna Salad Croissant Sandwiches
  • Variable Weight Tuna Salad sold by the pound

All were available at Jewel-Osco locations in Illinois, Iowa, and Indiana.

What to Do Next

If you recently purchased a ready-made deli sandwich or salad from Jewel-Osco, check your refrigerator immediately. If the product matches any of the recalled names or dates, do not eat it. Return it to the store for a full refund or call Albertsons Companies’ Customer Service at 1-877-723-3929, Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. PST.

Stay cautious and double-check any deli products before eating, especially if they were purchased in mid-July.
