19-year-old Lukas Cavar went on a beginner's trip with IU's Caving Club to Sullivan Cave. He accidentally became separated from the group, by the time he made it to the entrance/exit, the gate was locked.

The student had no cell signal and ended up screaming for hours. Being short on food and water, Lukas had to lick the cave walls to stay hydrated. He spent most of his three day stay talking to himself and napping.

Lukas' parents knew something was wrong when he didn't respond to their text messages. Members of the Caving Club found out he was missing and went back to the cave to rescue him.

He doesn’t plan to go spelunking again any time soon.
