Florida Man Walks Out Of Jail, Steals Car And Leads Cops On Second Chase In A Week
Typically, when you get released from jail, you try to keep a low profile and not attract any unwanted attention from Johnny Law. One guy in Florida did the exact opposite of that, and it ended with him right back in jail.
23-year-old Jefry Julian Chaucanes Vasquez was released from the Monroe County Jail on June 12, 2026. According to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, he did not waste any time landing himself back where he just came from.
Deputies say that right after walking out of the jail, Vasquez walked over to a Ford SUV that was in the Plantation Key Courthouse parking lot and stole it.
The chase began at 5pm on Friday, after the Sheriff's Office heard that the Florida Highway Patrol was in pursuit of a Ford SUV that had run from a reckless driving traffic stop.
Highway Patrol had the lead on the chase while the Sheriff's Office helped. Eventually, the teamed up forces got the Ford stopped, and Vasquez was taken right back to the very same jail he had left earlier that day.
Vasquez actually broke into a different vehicle in the parking lot as well, but didn't take anything of value - just an iPhone charger. For that, he was charged by the Sheriff's Office with theft and burglary of an unoccupied vehicle. The Highway Patrol charged him with a bunch of pursuit and reckless driving charges.
It was just a few days before, on June 9th, when Vasquez ran from deputies on US 1 and pushed his speed up to 125mph. For this one, he was charged with DUI, fleeing and eluding, reckless driving, excessive speeding, and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription.
