Illinois Man Captures Tornado Destroying His Home While He's Insi

Illinois is having a historic tornado season.

As of June, the state has already recorded more tornadoes than any other year on record, surpassing the previous record of 142 tornadoes set in 2024. Meteorologists say Illinois has logged more than 147 tornadoes so far in 2026, and the season isn't even over yet.

Illinois Man Captures Tornado On Video

One of those 147 tornadoes created a terrifying scene in Effingham County, where a homeowner unknowingly recorded the moment a tornado tore apart his house.

For those in the Quad Cities, Effingham is located about 230 miles southeast of Davenport and Moline, roughly a 3½- to 4-hour drive away.

What's The Story About This Guy?

Trevor Jason Kreke was inside his home when severe weather moved into the area. At first, he was simply recording the storm to share with a friend. But within moments, sh*t turned dangerous.

The video shows conditions rapidly worsening as powerful winds shake the house. The roar of the tornado grows louder before debris begins flying and parts of the home start breaking apart around him.

Remarkably, Kreke escaped without injuries. Although the tornado destroyed his home, he later shared that he was grateful to have survived and thankful that the storm only claimed possessions that can eventually be replaced.

How Far Did The Tornado Travel?

The tornado carved a path estimated at 12 to 15 miles through northern Effingham County. Emergency officials reported widespread damage, including dozens of homes that were either destroyed or suffered major damage.

One of the most incredible parts of the story is that no serious injuries were reported despite the extensive destruction left behind.
