Quad City Severe Storms: 70 MPH Wind Gusts, Large Hail, and Isolated Tornadoes
Drivers and residents across eastern Iowa and western Illinois should be prepared for a stormy Friday, with forecasters warning that two rounds of thunderstorms could move through the Quad Cities area with 70 mph wind gusts, large hail, and isolated tornadoes.
Meteorologists say the most concerning weather could arrive later in the day as conditions become more favorable for severe storms.
Morning Storms Expected to Move Through First
The first round of thunderstorms is expected early Friday morning as a band of storms moves northeast through eastern Iowa into western Illinois.
These storms could bring lightning and brief periods of heavy rain, but the severe weather threat during the morning appears limited.
Drivers traveling on Interstate 80, Interstate 74, and Interstate 280 around the Quad Cities may still encounter slick roads and reduced visibility during heavier downpours.
Forecasters expect this round of storms to move through fairly quickly before conditions quiet down for part of the afternoon.
Stronger Storms Could Develop Friday Evening
According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, a second round of storms may develop late Friday afternoon into Friday night as a cold front moves through the Mississippi River Valley.
Cities including Davenport, Bettendorf, Rock Island, and Moline could see storms redevelop by the early evening hours.
Some storms could become severe, bringing wind gusts up to 70 mph, large hail, and possibly an isolated tornado.

Other Eastern Iowa Cities Could Also See Severe Weather
Communities like Clinton, Muscatine, and Burlington could also see stronger storms later Friday evening or overnight as the system moves east.
Meteorologists say there is still some uncertainty about how storms will evolve, but the environment could support damaging winds and very large hail.
Residents are encouraged to stay alert for weather updates and have multiple ways to receive warnings as storms move into the region Friday night.
