Half Million Dollar Farm Offered Up As Prize in Essay Contest

Norma Burns has ran Bluebird Hill Farm in Bennett, North Carolina for the past 18 years. Now she wants to hand it over to somebody who's ready for the farm life.

The $450,000 farm has been put up as the prize in an essay writing contest. Interested families only need to submit a resume, a 200-word essay, and a $300 entry fee.

The entries are being accepted online at BluebirdHillFarmEssayContest.com and will continue to be accepted until the contest ends on June 1st.

"As soon as it went out it just kind of exploded," Burns said. "I've heard from people I haven't heard from in 20 years, calling and saying 'Oh I wish I could have that farm. Most of them are too old. So it's just been a real surprise. A pleasant surprise."
