Florida Driver Caught Using Sidewalk as a Lane in Cape Coral

A Tesla camera captured footage of a driver using the sidewalk as an extra lane on Chiquita Boulevard and SW 13th Street in Cape Coral early Sunday morning. Adding to the danger, the vehicle was traveling in the wrong direction.

"You see people running red lights or sitting at green lights, but not something like this," said Debra Hapner, a nearby resident. Hapner, who lives close to the incident, expressed her concern for the community's safety. "It’s terrifying. There are kids around, and it makes me not want to leave my house."

Neighbors Express Alarm

Residents like Hapner and Art Jackson are perplexed by the driver’s actions. "I can’t say if they were in a rush or just confused," Jackson said. "But taking the sidewalk isn’t just reckless—it’s dangerous for everyone."

The incident has sparked frustration and fear among the community, particularly in an area where pedestrians and dog walkers frequent. "This is a quiet neighborhood," Hapner added. "Drivers need to follow the rules and think about the lives they’re endangering."

Investigation Underway

The Cape Coral Police Department is investigating the incident and has not yet released any additional information. Residents are demanding accountability and safer streets.

"Whoever did this needs to be taken off the road," said Hapner. "It’s shocking and unacceptable."
