Over 1.7 Million Dozen Eggs Recalled

The recall involves eggs distributed by August Egg Company, which sold more than 1.7 million dozen eggs, equal to around 20 million individual eggs. The eggs were sold between February and early May and appeared under various brand names, including some found at Walmart.

Because the eggs were repackaged under different labels, consumers are being urged not to assume their eggs are safe based solely on branding.

How to Know If Your Eggs Are Affected

To find out if your eggs are part of the recall, look at the carton near the expiration or sell-by date. The affected cartons will have one of the following plant codes:

  • P-6562
  • CA-5330

They will also have Julian dates ranging from 032 to 126.

If your carton has any of these codes and dates, do not eat the eggs. You should throw them away or return them to the store where you bought them for a full refund.

Health Risks of Salmonella Exposure

The recall comes after a Salmonella outbreak that has already made dozens of people sick across multiple states, including California. Symptoms of Salmonella include:

  •  Diarrhea
  •  Vomiting
  •  Stomach cramps
  •  Fever

While many healthy individuals recover within a few days, Salmonella can pose serious health risks to infants, elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems. Anyone experiencing symptoms after eating potentially contaminated eggs should contact a healthcare provider right away.

Stay Safe and Spread the Word

The August Egg Company has halted distribution of the affected eggs and is cooperating with the FDA during the investigation. In the meantime, consumers are urged to double-check their egg cartons and share this information with friends and family.
