Blues Fest 2021 Playlist To Prepare For this Weekend
Back in the day, before jobs and children, I had all the time in the world. I would sit with my jambox and make mixtapes. A particularly great concert mix tape was the Guns N' Roses, Metallica, Faith No More tape I made to listen to on our way to Indianapolis in 1992. The ride was just as great as the show.
(ok, that's a lie. the show was amazing).
And remember, I couldn't just click a song to "add to playlist"...I had to record it in real time. So, I curated this list of GNR, Metallica, FNM, GNR, Metallica, FNM over and over to fill the whole 90 minute tape.
It got me in the habit of "pre-gaming" a concert. Getting yourself jazzed up to see a band by listening to their albums in the weeks & days leading up to the event.
Luckily Spotify has made it quite a lot easier to make playlists.
The Mississippi Valley Blues Society's 2021 Blues Fest is back this year on Friday, September 17 and Saturday, September 18th at LeClaire Park in Davenport, Iowa.
This weekend! So we've got just a few short days to prepare.
A playlist is especially great for shows like Blues Fest where there are a TON of artists, and quite possibly many you haven't heard of. I took the top 3 most popular songs of each artist and put them in a playlist.
Unfortunately Joanne Shaw Taylor has cancelled all her tour dates. The good news is that Danielle Nicole takes the stage in her place on Saturday 7:15pm and she is included in the playlist.
One particularly great stand out is Eric Gale's "Steep Climb" which features Zakk Wylde.
