Despite all the animal experts telling us that pets hate being dressed up in costumes, we're still going to do it because look how cute they are!

The National Retail Federation reports that Americans will spend $480 million on costumes for their pets this Halloween. That's right, a half a billion dollars on costumes.

That amount is more than double how much we spent on pet costumes back in 2010. The leading theory is that Instagram is causing us to spend more. Everyone wants to share a photo of their dog dressed up and I can't knock that.

The most popular pet costumes this year are pumpkin, hot dog, and bumblebee.
