In the pursuit of the bread, our bodies may be suffering more than we think.

A new Canadian study tracked the working hours and blood pressure of 3,500 white-collar workers in Quebec over the course of 5 years.

Those who work 45 hours or more a week were found to have a 70% higher risk of "masked" hypertension than those who work less than 35 hours a week. Masked Hypertension is high blood pressure that can go unnoticed at a checkup, but can be found when tracked at home.

They found regularly working extra overtime is linked to a 66% spike in chance of sustained hypertension.

The study can't prove there is a cause-and-effect between the two, but they did notice those who work 41-48 hours per week have a 54% higher risk of masked hypertension and 42% higher risk of sustained hypertension.

They said the study showed the same results for both men and women.
