Woman Saves Husband With CPR, Gives Birth Days Later
Lennon Goette is only a few days old, but he already has a pretty remarkable story about his birth that he can retell for the rest of his life. His father nearly died just days before his birth and was saved by his mother.
Ashley Goette was 39 weeks pregnant when she heard her husband, Andrew Goette, gasping for air in his sleep. She immediately called 911 and was walked through the steps of CPR until an ambulance arrived. "I don’t think Andrew would be here today if it wasn’t for the actions of Ashley," said Dr. Alex Teeters.
The 28-year-old was taken to a hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota and physicians found that he had gone into cardiac arrest. In order to reduce the risk of brain damage, Andrew was placed in an induced coma.
He woke up the next day to a nurse grabbing him and asking if he knew he was having a baby. "And he went mhm," Ashley said. "And she was like do you want to be there to be a part of your baby’s life? And he shook his head yes."
Ashley was induced the day after that and the following day gave birth to Lennon Andrew Goette at 6 pounds 14 ounces. During the labor and delivery, Andrew was moved from the ICU so he could be with his wife, his hospital bed was parked right next to Ashley's.
The couple has a GoFundMe set up to help pay for medical expenses.
