Whataburger Manager Beats Down Suspect With Trash Can After Assault
If there's one thing we know, it's that people don't seem to know how to behave when a fast food restaurant misses an item in their order or takes a little too long. One guy found out what happens if you try to be make a headline-type incident, and became one himself.
Police officers in Paris, Texas (about 2 hours northeast of Dallas) responded this week to the Whataburger on North Main Street after being called due to an unruly customer.
Officers found that a customer came to the store and was verbally abusive toward the staff members, and was asked to leave by the manager on duty. The man listened and left, not after telling the manager he'd be back to assault him once the cops left.
Staying true to his own word, the suspect returned to the restaurant once police had left and punched the manager multiple times. It was when the manager recovered from the punches that the suspect found himself in trouble.
Video shows the manager swinging a long garbage can over his head and hitting the suspect over and over, knocking him down and subdueing him, and began telling him to "Get the f**k out!"
The suspect was identified as 41-year-old Anthony William Newhuis, which police found out when they came back to the store and found Newhuis in the parking lot, bleeding from his head.
Newhuis was arrested and charged with assault resulting in bodily injury and public intoxication, police said. After getting to jail, Newhuis made sure to immediately flood the cells intentionally, which tacked on a criminal mischief charge.
Typically, employees aren't supposed to engage in these situations, but the manager had to defend himself. The one thing we do know, is if for some reason Whataburger lets him go, Waffle House is already eyeing the guy for a management position.
