Walmart’s Latest Change Is Set to Transform Your Shopping Experience In Louisiana
Walmart is rolling out a major upgrade for shoppers with disabilities across Louisiana. By January, every Walmart store in the state will have Caroline's Carts available, a special shopping cart designed to make trips easier for individuals with disabilities and their caregivers.
Walmart Expanding Accessibility in Louisiana with Caroline's Carts by January
Caroline’s Cart, which resembles a standard shopping cart but features a large seat with a five-point harness, is built to support individuals between 35 and 250 pounds. This helps caregivers who previously had to manage both a cart and a wheelchair while shopping. The seat faces the person pushing the cart, allowing for a smoother and more convenient shopping experience.
How Many Carts Will The Store Have?
Louisiana Walmart Supercenters will have at least two of these carts, and Neighborhood Market locations will carry at least one, with more available upon request based on store needs. This marks a significant expansion, as only about 20% of Walmart stores previously offered these carts.
How Did This Decision On A New Cart Come About?
Walmart's decision to provide Caroline’s Carts at all 4,600 U.S. locations, including in Louisiana, stems from feedback from customers and employees alike. The company began distributing the carts in May and plans to continue through January, with the goal of offering over 8,000 of them nationwide.
A Walmart spokesperson said this initiative reflects their commitment to inclusion and diversity, ensuring that all customers, including those with mobility challenges, have access to a more accommodating shopping experience.
With this expansion, shoppers with disabilities in cities like Baton Rouge, New Orleans, and Lafayette will soon have more support while shopping at Walmart, making daily tasks easier and more accessible for everyone.
