Thief Tried To Flee Cops in a Getaway Car That Was Sitting On a Jack
Police in Bellevue, Washington arrested a man caught in the act of stealing wheels and tires from a dealership and attempting to flee from police.
Officers caught the 23-year-old man Tuesday morning after police responded to a report of theft at a dealership lot.
The man is accused of stealing the tires off of one of the lot's black Dodge Challengers, then driving across the street to try and put the tires on his own red Dodge Challenger. He left the dealership's car up on blocks.
Police arrived on the scene to investigate, and the suspect dove into his car to flee the scene. The only problem with his plan was that he neglected to lower the drive wheels from the floor jack that they were sitting on.
Police were able to take him into custody with no issue. A search of the suspect's vehicle turned up a stolen gun that was loaded.
The suspect was booked into jail on seven felony warrants.
Additional charges are still pending.
“This is outstanding work by our patrol officers. Following up on a routine theft report, they were able to get this dangerous suspect off the streets,” stated Major Mark Tarantino, according to the department's Facebook post. “This should send a clear message to anyone wanting to commit crimes in Bellevue. We will respond, and we will investigate all crimes in our city. Our officers are well-trained investigators and exhaust all measures to solve these cases and hold those responsible accountable.”
