Don’t Miss Tonight’s Strawberry Moon! Here’s When to Look Up
If you get a chance tonight, do yourself a favor and look up because the Strawberry Moon is putting on a pretty spectacular show over the world.
Why Is It Called A Strawberry Moon?
Despite the name, don't expect a bright pink moon. The Strawberry Moon gets its name from Native American tribes, who used it to mark the short strawberry harvesting season in June. It's also been called the Honey Moon and Mead Moon over the years, making it one of the most interesting full moons on the calendar.

When Is The Best Time To See It Tonight?
This year's Strawberry Moon reaches its fullest point around 6:56 p.m. Central Time, but the best time to actually enjoy it will be shortly after sunset as it rises in the southeastern sky. Because it's hanging unusually low on the horizon, it may look much bigger than normal and could glow with beautiful shades of gold, orange, or even a soft amber color. That's just an optical illusion and the Earth's atmosphere working its magic, not because the moon is actually changing color.
Will The Weather Be Good Tonight?
The good news? The forecast looks great for moon watching in Iowa and Illinois. Skies should stay mostly clear through the evening with temperatures still hovering in the low 80s around 10 p.m. It'll definitely be warm, so you may want to bring a cold drink if you're planning to spend some time outside. There's also very little chance of rain, meaning we should have a fantastic view of tonight's lunar show.
