Steven Stoltenberg, Owner of Northwest Music Shop, Passes Away
Sad news for the community comes as word comes that Steve Stoltenberg has passed away at the age of 73.
If the name sounds familiar, it's either because you were a band kid, or your kid was a band kid.
Stoltenberg owned and operated the local favorite Northwest Music Shop, which he opened in 1972. Over the next 50 years, he would be not only the last full-service independent music store in the area, but he would be the location every band kid in the area who needed repairs would see for their work at his store on Washington Street.
From the obituary, shared by Halligan - McCabe - DeVries,
Steve owned and operated Northwest Music Shop, opening it in 1972. He was the last full-service independent music store in the area. Steve prided himself on affordable pricing to make music affordable to all income levels.
Throughout his life he played the clarinet in many community bands. He enjoyed volunteering as an usher for various plays and concerts in the community. Steve was a graduate of Western Iowa Tech Community College and a former member of the Iowa National Guard.
Visitation for Steve will be 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Friday, June 2, 2023 at Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home in Davenport. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 3, 2023 at Walcott Cemetery in Walcott, Iowa. Memorials may be made to Circa 21 in Rock Island.
