Roger Craig Named Semi Finalist For NFL Hall of Fame

One of Davenport's own and a San Francisco 49ers was nominated as a semi-finalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2024, and it's time to show the committee it's time to happen. Running back Roger Craig was one of 60 individuals named to the candidacy list.

The Davenport, Iowa native graduated from Davenport Central High School in 1979, went on to have a prolific career as a Cornhusker at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. The Davenport, Iowa native played at Nebraska from 1979-1982 and was a second-round selection in the second round in the 1983 draft.

As a San Francisco 49er, he would make the playoffs every single year of his career, playing in four Pro-Bowls, and an All-Pro selection in 1988.

Roger Craig was the first player to have 1,000 rushing yards and 1,000 receiving yards in the same season in 1985, changing the running back position forever.

He was the NFL's Offensive Player of The Year in 1988, and has 3 Super Bowl Championships.

In 1991, Craig left the 49ers to join the Raiders, who would lose in the playoffs to the Kansas City Chiefs. After that season, he would play for the Minnesota Vikings through 1993, but would sign a one-day contract with the 49ers so he could retire as a 49er.

The finalist list for the Pro Football Hall of Fame will be released on July 27th.
