Rock Island Celebrates Fathers Day With Free Kids Fishing Derby

On June 17th, 2023, the east pavilion at Sunset Marina in Rock Island, Illinois will be alive with the joyous sounds of children fishing with their families.

Doug's Heating and Doric Lodge 319 will host a kids' fishing derby from 7 am to 11 am to celebrate Father's Day weekend. This event will be free for all children and their families. It is a day full of life-long memories that everyone can cherish.

The fishing derby this year will have a special significance as it will be dedicated to the memory of two wonderful men, Robert Hines Sr., and Max Dean Wright. Both were lifelong fishing enthusiasts, who cherished events that brought people together to fish, celebrate, and have fun. The derby honors their passion for fishing, community spirit, and dedication to making life-long memories for the younger generations.

However, this year, the fishing derby serves a much more significant cause, with all donations going to support the cancer support community of OUR LOCAL GILDA'S CLUB. Not only does fishing bring people together, but it can also provide hope and help for those in need, spreading kindness and generosity.

What Do I Need To Bring?

All you need is a fishing pole for this event. Don't worry if you don't have one, as extras will be available. Bait will also be provided and volunteers will be on hand to assist as needed. Lunch will be served after the event for free. Plus, every kid will receive a prize and there will be trophies and raffles too. Bring your kids along and enjoy some quality time together.
