Two breweries that competed against each other for nearly a decade to try to create a stronger beer than the other decided to work together and created the world's strongest beer.

James Watt, CEO of Scottish brewery BrewDog, said the company decided with Schorschbräu, a brewery from Germany, to create the new beer, "Strength in Numbers," with an ABV of 57.8%.

The two companies began competing about a decade ago. The competition started at 32% ABV, ending around 55% before the partnership was decided upon.

The bottles sold for about $37.50 a piece, and sold out before the first day of sale was over.
