Costco Recalling Products In Iowa and Illinois For Safety Hazard
Warning Issued Over Sparkling Wine Bottles
Costco has announced a recall of its Kirkland Signature Prosecco Valdobbiadene after reports that some bottles may shatter unexpectedly, even if left unopened on a shelf. The recall applies to bottles sold between April 25 and August 26, 2025, across 12 states, including Illinois.
Where the Prosecco Was Sold
According to Costco’s notice to customers, the affected bottles were sold in:
- Illinois
- Iowa
- Indiana
- Kentucky
- Michigan
- Minnesota
- Missouri
- North Dakota
- Nebraska
- Ohio
- South Dakota
- Wisconsin
The membership-based retailer explained that the risk comes from the bottles themselves, which may break without warning, posing a safety hazard to anyone nearby.
What Customers Should Do
Shoppers who purchased the recalled Prosecco are urged not to attempt to open or use the bottles. Instead, Costco recommends carefully wrapping the bottle in paper towels, placing it inside a plastic bag, and throwing it out with regular household trash.
Customers who received a recall notice are eligible for a full refund by presenting the notice at any Costco location.
Company Response
The imported wine is distributed by Miami-based Ethica Wines, which sources the Italian bubbly for Costco. Ethica Wines has not yet provided public comment regarding the issue.
Costco is directing any additional questions about the recall to the importer. In the meantime, the company emphasizes that consumer safety is the top priority and encourages immediate disposal of the affected products.
