Intruder alert! Intruder alert! An opossum just entered the bar! For bars in the midwest, this incident would not shock anyone, however, to the people of Brooklyn New York, this was a terrifying experience.

A New York woman became a hero last Thursday after she evicted an Opossum from Temkin's Bar in Greenpoint.

Sara Fulton was hanging outside the bar with her friend when a furry critter ran into the building.

"I was outside hanging out with my friend outside the bar, the door was open and then all of a sudden we see this critter run in and we looked at each other, and we just were like, 'Was that a dog? Is that a rat?'" said Fulton. "We both looked at each other and were like, 'That was too big to be a rat! It has to be an opossum.'"

Fulton showed no fear as she walked into the bar, picked up the opossum by the scruff, and carried the critter out of the bar.

Many people in the bar were panicked about the opossum. Fulton said it was no big deal taking it out.

"I’m from Alaska and I used to go camping with black bears hanging out at my campsite," Fulton said to NBC New York. "I think it was just instinctual, I just like went up to him and I was like, 'hey I know you’re afraid' ... and I was like 'alright, I think I’m just gonna scruff you and take you out because that would be the least painful for you.'" (So not only is she an exterminator, but she's also an opossum whisperer)

Most New Yorkers are used to cockroaches and street rats, so the fact that an opossum ran into the bar really freaked people out.

Bartender Rachel Bessemer told NBC New York, "I mean everybody just lost their minds, we couldn’t believe it was happening," said bartender Rachel Bessemer. "I grabbed my phone, didn’t know who to call, I was like, 'this is not what people do.'"

After the job was done, Fulton became the hero of the bar. Everyone lined up to buy her rounds and the night turned into a celebration party. After the event, the bar humorously put up this sign:

"They’re like 'you’re a hero, you’re a celebrity.' I’m like, what? No," Fulton said. "For me, it’s just a wild animal. But I have to realize I’m not in Alaska, and that’s not something you see every day."
