My USPS Package Took The Longest Route to Its Destination

There has to be a better way to get a package from Detroit to Davenport that doesn't require an extra 1,000 miles being added onto the trip. The only thing I can think of is that I didn't pay for 2 day shipping, so this is how they make sure it takes a week?

Last week I ordered a package from some place that ships out of Pleasant Ridge, MI. It passed over the Quad Cities, and then took the long way up to visit Lake Michigan before coming back this way to finally be delivered, moving about 1,500 miles total.
