Man Goes On Tractor Rampage, Lights House on Fire Before Arrest
A man from Colorado is in custody after a series of crazy events that involved a tractor and ended with two injured officers, a house fire, and multiple damaged vehicles last Wednesday.
At around 6pm near San Luis, Colorado, the ordeal began when authorities were called about a man armed with a knife.
When police arrived, the man, identified as 30-year-old Cimmarron Mathes, reportedly stole a tractor and began running over the vehicles on his dad's property. Multiple law enforcement agencies were called to the scene to assist with the incident unfolding.
At one point, Mathes drove off of the property and rammed into a Blanca Police Department vehicle.
Blanca's Police Chief Ricky Rodriguez and Officer Josh Sanchez were in the vehicle, and were checked out by medics on the scene for the minor injuries they sustained.
Around 9:45pm, Mathes rammed the tractor into his father's house before jumping off and running inside. At one point in the evening, his father was in the house, but had gotten the hell out of that area earlier on in the ordeal.
“After he did his rampage with the tractor, he got into the house and was attempting to light the house on fire. Deputies were watching through the windows,” Sanchez said. “He eventually towards the end did light the house on fire and it did burn down.”
As the fire spread throughout the house, the SWAT team deployed tear gas and was able to get Mathes out. He was taken into custody around 1am Thursday.
Cimmarron Mathes faces at least 11 charges with more pending. So far those known include:
Multiple charges of attempted murder on a peace officer
- Arson
- Aggravated motor vehicle theft
- Vehicular eluding
- Criminal mischief
- Reckless endangerment
The house was located about 30 minutes away from the New Mexico state line.
