Man, Depressed About Turning 50, Blew Up His Own House

Everyone struggles with getting older and facing their own mortality in different ways. This guy's reaction might just be the worst.

William Flindell from Newport, South Wales turned 50 last April and he was so depressed about it that he spent the day drinking. Then he decided to blow up his house by filling the place with gas, flicking a lighter, and causing an explosion.

He wound up with burns on 58% of his body and lost the use of both of his hands. He also did $245,000 in damage and caused minor injuries for two other people.

Flindell was in court this week, and he admitted he'd blown up his house because he was depressed about turning 50. He was sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison for arson.
