Man Wins $50K After Buying A Scratch Off Lottery Ticket In Bettendorf
A quick stop for a scratch-off turned into a much bigger payday than expected for a Davenport man who thought he’d only won a fraction of his actual prize.

Dominic Michael, 51, originally believed his ticket was worth $5,000, and he was already thrilled about it.
“I figured, ‘Hey, that’s a pretty great day,’” he said while picking up his prize at an Iowa Lottery office in Cedar Rapids.
But before celebrating, he decided to double-check the ticket at a nearby gas station. That’s when the real number popped up... and it was ten times higher.
“When it showed $50,000, I just stood there thinking, ‘There’s no way,’” he said. “I couldn’t believe it.”
Where Was The Ticket Purchased?
The winning ticket was purchased at Casey's in Bettendorf.
Now that the shock has worn off, Michael says the unexpected boost will go a long way. He plans to use the money to take care of bills, get ahead financially, and do something special for his grandkids.
“It just takes a lot of pressure off,” he said. “It’s a really good feeling.”
The ticket was part of a $5 scratch game that offers multiple top prizes, and in this case, delivered a much bigger win than the player ever imagined.
