Saturday at the RME in Davenport, join Quad Cities local bands as they come together and help raise money for elementary music education at Riverdale CUSD during the Local Bands For Music Education event.

According to Riverdale music teacher Brittany Harris, this is what the money will be going toward:

"Riverdale is a small, Title I district located in Port Byron, Illinois. Our 550 kindergarten-fifth grade students attend music class twice a week for 30 minutes, and 5th grade students may elect to participate in beginning band. As an elementary music teacher, my philosophy is to give our students many positive experiences in music so that they will grow to make, enjoy, and appreciate music as an adult.

The elementary music program has grown steadily over the past several years; our band numbers have increased, we have added an elementary choir, introduced an annual fine arts night for student performances, and most recently have begun a new ukulele unit for 5th grade students. While the growth of the music program is certainly exciting, it does come with some growing pains. Because of the increased activity in our music room, wear and tear on our classroom instruments has also increased. The funds raised at this benefit will go toward the repair of current instruments and purchase of several new classroom instruments. We also hope to purchase several Makey-Makeys and other tools that can be used to integrate music with S.T.E.M. education.

We feel so fortunate to be the recipients for the 2018 Local Bands for Music Education benefit and are so thankful to all who are supporting music at Riverdale!"
