Iowa, You May Want To Paint Your Bedroom Before Daylight Saving Ends
In a month, we're going to have another jacked up sleep schedule.
Our clocks will "fall back" on November 3rd. We'll get an extra hour of sleep (unless you have pets, kids, or a snoring partner) and we'll lose even more sunlight.
Legislation has been in the works for a lot of the Midwest to just scrap the time changes altogether. But it's not come to fruition, so here we are, about to adjust to the darkest time of the year yet again.
What Might Help
A lot of us struggle this time of the year. Not only are our sleep schedules off, but motivation is down. Once the sun sets, I'm done being productive for the day.
Sleep Junkie looked at something that might help you get good, consistent sleep: your bedroom color.
The study of over 1,000 people found that you should paint your bedroom purple to sleep better.
It's not ~aesthetic~. Beige and white seem like the most popular wall colors (since neutrals go with anything) but I bet a nice shade of purple or blue in a bedroom could be fun to decorate with.
But as you can see from the study, it also varies by gender. Men slept best in a white room, while women slept best in a beige room. Plus really, a brighter unique color like purple might make the dark winter season as a whole a little brighter. I'd try it if my landlady wouldn't kill me.
We're gonna have to deal with that until March 9th, 2025 when we'll start to get at least more light at the end of our days. Until then, it's going to be an earlier and earlier sunset for us.
