Tipping culture has gotten...interesting over the last few years.

We've all experienced that awkward moment when the barista or cashier turns the iPad around for you to pick a tip amount. You have a flashing moment of not being totally sure how much to tip, and it's kinda weird since the worker is standing right there.

According to a BankRate survey earlier this summer, most Americans think that tipping culture is 'out of control'.

There's always pressure to tip and to tip well. Even if I don't get good service or there are problems with the food, I'll still tip a server 20%, because I feel like I should. The survey found that Gen Z and millennials are the less frequent tippers, while boomers and Gen X tip more.

There are so many services we tip for these days, well beyond just a restaurant. There are hairdressers, coffeehouses, Ubers and Lyfts, and more. Here's what the survey found that people tip the most:

Servers at sit-down restaurants: 70%
Hair stylists/barbers: 54%
Food delivery: 52%
Rideshares/taxis: 43%
Hotel housekeepers: 25%
Coffee shop baristas: 18%
Furniture/appliance delivery workers: 15%
Picking up takeout food: 12%
Home services/repair workers: 9%

And go figure, a good chunk of people don't like the pre-filled-in tipping screens. So for some source of sanity in tipping culture, here's what local services/restaurants suggest on tipping.

Also worth noting that the survey found that 41% of people said employers should just pay their employees more instead of relying on tips.
