Iowa City Man Three Times Over Legal Limit Drove Excavator Down Street
An Iowa City man has been arrested on some charges related to a drunk driving incident that took place on Muscatine Avenue - and the guy was well over the legal limit.
Police responded to calls to Muscatine Avenue around 3pm Saturday to calls of an excavator rolling down the street and a driver who appeared to be intoxicated.
Officers who responded said once they stopped him, the driver smelled of alcohol, had bloodshot and watery eyes, slurred speech, and was not able to keep his balance. Court documents state he admitted to buying the alcohol and drinking it.
A breathalyzer found that the BAC was 0.222 - nearly three times the legal limit of 0.08.
40-year-old Dustin Snyder is charged with second-offense operating while intoxicated and driving with a suspended license. This is his second OWI, the first being in September 2024. His license was suspended May 4 for failing to pay the fines that were associated with that charge.
His records say he was released from jail and is now required to complete a substance abuse evaluation, complete treatment and provide proof of completion.
Snyder also faces charges of domestic abuse and child endangerment stemming from three incidents in North Liberty in July 2024, to which he pleaded guilty. He also was charged with harrasment and burglary at the same address, where he also was wittnessed by police threatening to kill the person in the residence.
He will be facing a probation revocation hearing on May 15th.
