Here Is How To Experience Amazing Iowa Views From A Railroad Pedal Car

There is a new way to discover parts of Iowa in a way like never before; by pedaling on railroad tracks.  Rail Explorers USA has come to Iowa and as you can see in the pictures and video below, this isn't your normal scenic tour.

What are Rail Explorers Railbikes?

These railbikes have four steel wheels, hydraulic disc brakes, and what Rail Explorers calls "the REX Propulsion System" - a custom-built electric motor just in case the pedal power gets tired.

The bikes are built for two or four and built for any age or ability. The explorers require pedaling but you won't be steering because you are on railroad tracks.  Which will make it easy for you to take that perfect selfie or TikTok video.

Where is the new location in Iowa?

The new location is in Boone Iowa.  It is the first Rail Explorers location in the midwest located at 123 10th Street in Boone.  Which happens to be the Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad Museum.  From there, you will take a 12.4 mile round trip tour that will feature a half-way stop on the banks of the Des Moines River.

What sites will you see on your pedal ride?

The 12.4 mile ride will take you through the Des Moines River Valley and the historic “Bass Point Creek High Trestle”, a 156' high, 750' long trestle with panoramic views of the Des Moines River Valley. The Rail Explorers website says "guests are encouraged to bring refreshments", but it doesn't say anything about alcohol.  Cause a good drink with these views would be perfect.

What will it cost you to ride the rails?

Other than the gas to travel across the state and hotel to crash after a day of peddling your railcar, ticket prices are $160 for the four-person railbike and $90 for the 2-seat bike.  FYI, bargain hunters, Iowa residents receive a 10% “locals” discount price Monday through Friday.

You can sweat it up in the summer months, or time it just right and check out these amazing views when the leaves are changing color.  Or, if you are really adventurous, bundle up for a winter ride.  Oh, and Rail Explorers says don't worry about trains on the tracks.  They coordinate with railroad managers. So you won't have to peddle faster to escape an oncoming train.
