Grocer Opening Small Stores for Small Town Iowans in Rural Areas
There's a lot of Iowans that live in rural areas of the state. Sometimes simple tasks such as going to the grocery store can become a big part of the day when it takes 30 minutes or so just to get to the store. Those residents that have a bit of travel time to the grocery store are about to have it a whole lot easier.
That's because Fareway is opening smaller stores in these rural areas to help. We Are Iowa reports that the grocery chain has begun a pilot program this year where they will be opening up smaller scale grocery stores in rural communities. This program is an effort to make it easier for people in rural towns to get their groceries.
The very first store of the program was purchased in Colfax, Iowa in December of 2020. It's just under 8,000 square feet according to the report and is in the former Shugar's building. The store is currently open to the public.
There's no word yet on if any other locations will be opening soon, but we'll continue to keep you up to date as more information becomes available. This is a wonderful way to make things easier on residents in our rural communities. There's definitely a lot of them here in Iowa.
