A 26-year-old man has been jailed for nine years after stabbing a doorman at a Stockport bar following an earlier scuffle. Luke Allman attacked staff at Bask, near Stockport station, on February 23 after drinking heavily and later returning armed with a knife, a court heard.

Incident at Bask near Stockport station

Prosecutors told Minshull Street Crown Court that Allman had been celebrating the reveal of the gender of his first child and had been drinking with friends at a Wetherspoons before moving on to Bask, which has since changed management and been rebranded. While inside the bar, he stood in a marked “no service” area and shouted, “I've been waiting here for ages,” the court was told.

A staff member showed him a sign explaining that customers would not be served in that area, which he threw. He was then asked to leave and became involved in what was described as a “big scuffle.” CCTV captured Allman falling onto his back and walking away, but 12 minutes later, he returned carrying a flick knife and attacked a doorman who had not been part of the earlier confrontation.

Severity of the attack and injuries

The injured doorman suffered a wound to his abdomen that left a protruding bowel and required emergency surgery. During the chaotic scenes, a female security guard was struck and later vomited after her head was hit; another staff member suffered a head injury and a damaged thumb. It took four members of the security team to wrestle Allman and disarm him.

“I’m going to f***ing kill everyone,” Allman was heard shouting, the court heard, as staff realised a bouncer had been stabbed in the abdomen.

Victims describe lasting impact

In a statement read to the court, the stabbed bouncer said he believed he was going to die and described ongoing anxiety and fear about his surroundings, adding: “I'm normally quite active, but after that moment I am wary of my surroundings and look around a lot more. When people are around, I'm scared, worried, and anxious. I don't want to return to door work due to the risk to my safety and other people.”

The female door staff member who was injured said she was admitted to a psychiatric hospital for two weeks and told the court: “I've never been so scared and embarrassed in my life. This stupid, unnecessary incident changed my life forever.”

Court hearing and mitigation

Allman pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and possession of an offensive weapon. Henry Blackshaw, speaking for the defence, described the events as a “disaster” for the victims, Allman and his family, and said Allman had been inebriated with “at least 10 pints of beer and had taken a modest amount of cocaine.” Blackshaw added Allman “doesn't have a clear memory” of the incident and said he felt aggrieved at the way he was handled after being ejected.
