Revitalize Your Garden This Spring with Free Seeds from Rock Island Illinois Library
If you're looking to try out new seed varieties or grow your own fruits, vegetables, and flowers, look no further than the Seed Library at the Rock Island Public Library. Here's everything you need to know about this exciting and free program:
The Seed Library is a collection of open-pollinated and heirloom seeds available for free at the Rock Island Public Library's Downtown location. This program is open to everyone, and no library card is required. By picking up seed packets, you can start growing your own fresh produce and colorful blooms. In addition, growing different types of plants helps preserve genetic diversity, pollination, and local food sources.
Free Seed Packets For Your Garden
Each household can pick up five free seed packets per month during regular Downtown Library hours of 10 am to 6 pm Monday-Friday, and 10 am to 2 pm on Saturdays. However, supplies of specific varieties or types are not guaranteed. So, be sure to grab what you need while they're still available.
Is Mail Ordering Available?
If you live in Rock Island or the Milan-area, you can also request seeds by mail. Simply use the online form on the RIPL website and choose one of four preselected garden bundles. Each bundle contains a varied selection of 5 vegetables, flowers, fruits, herbs, or mixed seed packets. The library will mail one bundle of seeds to addresses in its service area.
Where to Find a Seed Growing Guide?
If you're new to gardening, don't worry! The Rock Island Library has you covered with an Illinois Growing Guide. This resource provides instructions for every seed offered in the Seed Library. You can find the guide in a binder next to the Seed Library or digitally from the Seed Library page.
The Seed Library is a fantastic opportunity for anyone interested in gardening. It's free, open to everyone, and offers a variety of seed packets to choose from. Plus, you can even request seeds by mail if you live in the Rock Island or Milan-area. So, visit the Rock Island Public Library and get started on your gardening journey today!
