We all had our favorite places to go when we were kids. However, when I was growing up, libraries were at the bottom of the list of cool places to hang out.  The list was like this:

  1. Main Street
  2. Bowling Alley
  3. Your Buddy's Car (cruising, as we called it)
  4. Anywhere but the library.

The closest to "cool" my library ever got was when they were clearing out all their magazines.  They had boxes and boxes upon boxes in the basement and I was able to sift through them all for some really great finds.

I was able to get my hands on a couple of magazines from the 60s that had the Beatles on the cover.  I found a few Rolling Stones with some of my favorite oldies bands and articles about "new releases" that happened before I was born.

Turns out, libraries have come a long way since I was a teenager. The Bettendorf Public Library’s Summer Concert Series returns with some hot music on summer nights.
