First of all, what this guy did is inexcusable. With that out of the way, I can't fault him for what he bought with stolen money.

52-year-old Timothy Powell bought the personal information of an 80-year-old man with dementia on the dark web. Using the stolen identity, Powell got $40,000 worth of dental work and then bought a $10,000 French bulldog puppy.

The victim's caretaker notice something was up when the victim received two bills from a dental clinic. Volusia County Sheriff's deputies were able to obtain Powell's fingerprints from paperwork at the dentist's office.

Powell also made large withdrawals from another victim's bank account.
