Florida Man Accused of Pouring Bleach in Co-Worker’s Pepsi

A Florida Man working in a Volusia County area Dollar General employee was arrested for allegedly pouring bleach into his co-worker's drink on Monday.

Jerome Ellis, who worked at the Dollar General in DeLand was arrested on charges of poisoning food or water and tampering with evidence after the store's video surveillance showed Ellis pouring bleach into the co-worker's can of Pepsi, according to the affidavit.

Ellis and the victim had reportedly gotten into an argument the day before, and according to the victim, Ellis had held onto his grudge, deputies said.

The man told deputies he placed a Pepsi he was drinking on a counter before going to the restroom. When he returned from his potty break, he took a drink from the same can, which he says tasted like bleach or some other kind of cleaning supply.

Deputies arrived at the store and reviewed the video surveillance, which of course showed Ellis pouring bleach into the can while the victim was gone. He then wiped the can off, walked away, but then returned to spit in the can.

Ellis claimed there was no argument between him and the victim, and that he was behind the counter cleaning and "spilled some in that general area," according to the affidavit.

Video footage also shows Ellis working to unplug the camera system.

When confronted about the video footage, Ellis told deputies that he did put some cleaning solution around the brim of the drink to get back at the victim for being difficult to work with.

Jerome Ellis was booked into the Volusia County Jail.
