A firefighter from Polk County, Florida's quest be the very best, like no one ever was, has landed him behind bars.

Joel Strickland, 30, was caught on surveillance video taking barcodes from cheap packs of Pokémon cards and putting them on more valuable packs before taking them to self checkout.

A loss prevention officer for the store was waiting for him at the exit of the store, who already had police on their way.

Police say Strickland had plans to flip the cards to make some money, because he's dealing with some financial struggles.

“Help is a phone call away,” Haines City Police Chief Jim Elensky said. “If you are struggling, there are a myriad of resources available. As public safety employees, we are expected to conduct ourselves in a manner worthy of the respect our communities show us.”

Strickland is facing petty theft charges.
