Desiree and Jeff Jolly live in the Russian Hill neighborhood in San Fransisco and they how tricky it can be to find a parking space.

There's a space at the corner of Larkin and Union streets that has always been their go-to for the past 25 years.

Desiree said, "We came out and we were walking up from the store, and I noticed the ticket on my car."

The ticket was $180 assigned for parking in a red zone. However that morning, and for the past years, there was no red paint on the curb. In fact, the curb had been painted while the car was parked on the street. The painter even missed a spot as they painted around the tire of the car.

"If it was warranted I don't have a problem with it, but this seems unfair to me," she said. "The red stripe is there, where it wasn't before, and they had the nerve to just to go around my tire."

Jeff found the paint job quite humorous because he is a painter by trade.

"I saw that and I even have painter friends who say what a bad job that was. They missed a spot," he joked.

In the video, ABC7 News shows a close-up of the curb before the paint job. The city said that the curb has always been red, it just has faded paint. However, to the naked eye, the curb is not even a little bit red. The news compared images of the curb from 2016 and 2021, to which the curb is paintless.

The couple contested the ticket but the process could take up to 60 days.

"I'm going through chemotherapy right now, so it's like I'm worried about other things and now I have to worry about this," Desiree said.
